Founded in 1897 by Tokumatsu Ishikawa (石川徳松), Zebra began as a small Japanese pen manufacturer producing writing instruments such as fountain pens and nibs. In 1914, the brand name “Zebra” was adopted, inspired by the idea of unity and harmony, reflected in the image of a herd.

Over time, Zebra grew into a major global stationery company known for combining everyday usability with innovative engineering. Products such as the Sarasa gel pen and Mildliner highlighters have become widely used for their smooth writing experience and soft, distinctive colors.
